Filling The Flybox #6

This fly bring me to the halfway point in this video series although I'm sure many anglers would argue that this should be the first fly in any box. for me it's one of the most important flies I've ever fished with and I've fished lot's of variants before returning to the original patten. I've cut out the beads, tags, hotspots, legs and all manner of other additions and found myself back to wire and Pheasant tail fibres. The Pheasant Tail Nymph or PTN as it's known to many is the second fly designed by Frank sawyer to make it into my 2016 flybox and with good reason, you could fish the whole season with just this fly and I'm convinced you'd have one of the best seasons ever, it's simply that good. I believe that my tying is similar but not the same as Sawyers, I've finished mine with a little drop of super glue and his was finished with a single half hitch. His original also has the thorax finished first forward then back whereas mine is the reverse. I don't really think these particulars make any difference to how the fly fishes or the effectiveness of the pattern but if you want the original tying to the letter you may wish to research his flies further.
